Championing Resilience

Helping anxious and overwhelmed young people rebuild confidence, resilience, and a sense that learning is possible again.

Focus of the Work

Championing Resilience supports young people who have lost confidence in learning, particularly those experiencing anxiety, school avoidance (EBSA), or difficulties engaging with traditional education environments. The focus of this work is stabilisation and rebuilding confidence, helping young people feel safe enough to begin reconnecting with learning again. For some young people, this may later include academic support such as English tutoring, but wellbeing and confidence always come first. If you would like to discuss whether this type of support may help your child, please feel free to get in touch.

How I Can Help

For Parents & Carers

Support for young people experiencing anxiety, school avoidance (EBSA), or a loss of confidence in learning.

This work focuses on helping young people feel safe, rebuild confidence, and gradually re-engage with learning in a way that feels manageable.

For Schools & Organisations

Structured programmes and interventions to support identity, resilience, and emotional wellbeing in young people, particularly those at risk or in care.

This includes the Rising Strong programme and other support designed to complement existing provision within schools, PRUs, and care settings.

Parent Feedback

  • “I can’t speak highly enough of Ulla, an extremely talented English Literature and Language tutor. In just two months, she helped my daughter progress from a Grade 2 to a Grade 7 in English Literature. Ulla has an exceptional ability to connect with teenagers and tailor her teaching to their needs, which made a remarkable difference to my daughter’s confidence and performance.”

  • Dear Ulla, Thomas has been happy to learn English with you this year. Thank you for being so understanding and patient with him. He told me today he feels he has progressed a lot. He is happy with the amount of homework you gave him and your feedback and support from this. For him to approach his weekly lessons regularly with positivity had been no mean feat on your behalf. I am very grateful. Hope you have a good Summer. See you in September? With very best wishes

    — Julie (Tom’s mum).

  • My daughter was home tutored by Ulla when she suffered from extreme anxiety and depression as a teenager. This meant that my child was often very reluctant to come out of her room for lessons and was unable to attend school. However, Ulla was so patient and understanding that my child gradually came out of her room and began to enjoy the lessons. Ulla did not give up on my child and for that I am truly thankful, as it showed my daughter that there were people (not just mum) who truly believed in her. The proof was in the pudding when my daughter passed her GCSE English exam.

  • Firstly thank you for your patience and understanding with Dilys in what was an incredibly difficult time for her and us. Dilly was unable to attend school for nearly two years due to crippling anxiety developed during lockdown. I'm so glad that you were there to walk and nurture Dilys through this process which I now see is a longer road. Over the last year it has been a great comfort to have you on our side and fighting Dilys’ corner. You enabled her to engage in English which had always been a difficult subject for her. You made lessons fun and when things were difficult you gave her space. Thanks for your experience and patience.
